Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we get asked most, from reading a bearing number to delivery and returns. Can't find what you're looking for? Give us a call and we'll help.

Finding the right part

How do I find the part I need?

Start with the part number. Most bearings, seals and belts have one stamped or printed on them, and you can type it straight into the search bar.

If the number has worn off, measure the part using our measuring guide, or contact us with a photo and details of what it's fitted to. We'll identify it.

What do the numbers on a bearing mean?

Take 6205-2RS as an example. The 6 means it's a deep groove ball bearing, the 2 is its size series, and the last two digits give the bore. From 04 upwards, multiply by five to get the bore in millimetres, so 05 is a 25mm bore. 00, 01, 02 and 03 are 10, 12, 15 and 17mm.

The letters after the number describe seals and clearance. 2RS means rubber seals on both sides, ZZ or 2Z means metal shields on both sides, and C3 means greater internal clearance than standard, often used where bearings run hot.

Should I choose a sealed (2RS) or shielded (ZZ) bearing?

Rubber-sealed bearings (2RS) keep out water and fine dust better, so they suit dirty or wet conditions. Metal-shielded bearings (ZZ) have lower friction and suit higher speeds in cleaner environments. If you're replacing a bearing, match what was fitted unless you know the conditions have changed.

How are oil seals sized?

Oil seals are sized by shaft diameter, housing bore and width, in that order. A 30x47x7 seal fits a 30mm shaft in a 47mm housing and is 7mm wide. Measure the shaft and housing rather than the old seal's inner lip, which stretches in use.

How do I identify roller chain?

Measure the pitch, which is the distance between the centres of two neighbouring pins. Then check whether it's British Standard (such as 08B) or American ANSI (such as 40). They can share the same pitch but aren't interchangeable, so measure the roller diameter too, or send us a photo.

Do you sell belts and pulleys?

Yes. We stock V and wedge belts, cogged belts and timing belts, along with pulleys, sprockets and taper lock bushes. Our measuring guide explains how to identify a belt with no code.

Are your products genuine?

Yes. We buy through manufacturers' official distribution channels, so every product is genuine and backed by the manufacturer. See our brands for more.

I can't find the part I need. Can you get it?

Very likely. We only list part of what we can supply, so if you can't find it on the site, contact us with the part number, measurements or a photo and we'll look into it.

Cut-to-length items

Which items are cut to length?

Items cut to your chosen length or made to your specification, such as timing belts, roller chain, hose, tubing and pipe. The product page will say if an item is cut to order.

Can I return an item that's been cut to length?

No, unless it's faulty. Because it's made to your specification, it can't be cancelled or returned once cut. Your legal rights for faulty items still apply. If you're unsure of the size, call us before you order.

Orders and delivery

How much is delivery and how long does it take?

UK standard delivery by Royal Mail costs £3.85 and takes 3 to 5 working days. Tracked next-day delivery by FedEx costs £10.50 for orders placed by 3pm on a working day. Orders over £250 qualify for free tracked FedEx delivery in 2 to 3 working days. See our Delivery page for details.

Do you deliver outside the UK?

Yes, to selected international destinations. Available services and prices are shown at checkout. Import duties and taxes may be charged by the destination country and are payable by the recipient.

When will my order be dispatched?

Orders placed before 3pm on a working day are usually dispatched the same day. Orders placed later, or at weekends and bank holidays, go out on the next working day.

Do I need a trade account to order?

No. Industrial Outlet is open to everyone. A trade account is only needed if you'd like trade pricing or credit terms.

How can I pay?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay. Approved trade account customers can apply to pay on account.

Can I get a VAT invoice?

Yes. Contact us with your order number and we'll send one over.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Contact us as soon as possible. If your order hasn't been dispatched, we'll do our best to change it. Items cut to length can't be changed once they've been cut.

Returns and refunds

How long do I have to return something?

You can cancel within 14 days of the day after delivery, and then have a further 14 days to send the item back. We refund you within 14 days of receiving it. Full details are on our Returns and refunds page.

What if my item is faulty or wrong?

Contact us before fitting or using it. If it's faulty, or we've sent the wrong item, we'll arrange collection at our cost and put it right.

Trade accounts

Do you offer trade accounts?

Yes. If you buy regularly for a business, apply for a trade account and we'll review your application and be in touch by email.

Can I get credit terms?

Credit terms are available to approved businesses, subject to a credit check. You can request them on the trade account application form.

Still got a question?

Talk to someone who knows the parts. Send us a part number, a measurement or a photo and we'll help you find the right one.
